STUDY: Genes helped humans adapt to higher-carb world but 50% of us don't have it. by Anne Mullens, medical review by Dr. Bret Scher, MD Why is it that one person eating a high-carb meal will not have her blood sugar rise, and yet another person, eating exactly the same food, sees her blood sugar climb? It might be related to whether or not she carries a specific variant of a single gene enabling more efficient blood glucose regulation. This newer gene variant spread among farming populations during the dawn of the agricultural revolution, when higher carb foods became more common. But here’s the rub: Half of us don’t have it. Women: Feeling moody, irritable, anxious or depressed? Your birth control method may be to blame6/20/2019 Too often women only hear of the benefits of birth control pills and hormonal IUD's. The side effects - if they're mentioned at all - are often glossed over as "not too bad" or "the odds are low YOU will experience these issues". Unfortunately, the side effects are more common than most people think - especially the mood altering side effects - and they're not mood altering in a good way.... Fat shaming....believing and sharing the stereotype that people who are obese are lazy, eating too much, don't have the will power to lose weight, don't put forth the effort to lose weight, etc. Unfortunately it's one of the stereotypes that many still believe and feel justified in using against people. If you've ever been overweight/fat you've very likely experienced this from your doctor(s) and sometimes even your friends and family. It's one of the worst experiences to know that people think of you in that way, especially as most likely you have tried to do all the things you've been told to do to lose weight.
Can eating meat improve your mental health?
Many people experience significant improvement to their mental health when they switch to a carnivore way of eating. By carnivore I mean animal foods only, no plants. This typically means eating meats, cheese & eggs. The emphasis is usually on eating mostly ruminants, which would be cow, buffalo, deer & goat, as they seem to provide the most healing benefits mentally and physically. Yes, this may seem shocking as it does fly in the face of what we've been told in society about how to eat for health. I work with people to improve their health and wellness, and one of the ways I do that is by helping people integrate Low-carb, keto and sometimes carnivore way of eating into their life. I have repeatedly seen the healing benefits of this life change on body and mind as well as experienced it personally...
Repeatedly you hear how awful stress is for you - worrying about that ends up increasing the impact of the stress you're already experiencing.
But what if stress didn't have a negative impact on you? What if you could sail through stressful situations with minimal negative impact - or even with a positive impact - on your body mind and soul? |
